Schefflera arboricola – Dwarf Umbrella Tree
Schefflera arboricola is a dense, branching tropical plant recognized by its glossy leaflets arranged in an umbrella-like pattern. More compact than Schefflera amate, it adapts easily to different spaces and can develop into a full shrub or small tree over time.
Its growth responds particularly well to pruning, making it easy to maintain a compact silhouette or encourage additional branching.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. It tolerates medium light, but brighter conditions encourage dense, balanced growth. Avoid intense direct sunlight.
Watering
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering and allow excess water to drain completely.
Care
Grow in a light, well-draining potting mix. Prune new growth as needed to control its shape and encourage branching. Rotate the pot regularly to maintain even growth.
Good to know
Schefflera arboricola is now also botanically classified as Heptapleurum arboricola, although the name Schefflera remains widely used in horticulture. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from cats and dogs that may chew on it.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
