Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ – Compact Dragon Tree

Dracaena fragrans ‘Compacta’ is a tropical houseplant with an exceptionally dense, structured growth habit. Its glossy, deep green leaves are relatively short and arranged in tight rosettes, creating a much more compact silhouette than other Dracaena fragrans cultivars.

Its slow growth and naturally contained form make it particularly well suited to adding lush greenery without requiring a large amount of space.

Light
Provide bright indirect light for dense, balanced growth. ‘Compacta’ also tolerates medium light, although growth may be slower. Avoid intense direct sunlight.

Watering
Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess moisture drain away. Avoid keeping the soil consistently wet.

Care
Use an airy, well-draining potting mix and maintain relatively stable temperatures. Its naturally slow growth means that little pruning is usually required. Wipe the foliage occasionally to prevent dust buildup.

Good to know
‘Compacta’ is a Dracaena fragrans cultivar known for its dense growth and tightly clustered leaf rosettes. It is sometimes sold as “Janet Craig Compacta” or “Compact Janet Craig,” although its appearance is considerably more compact than the classic ‘Janet Craig’. Like other Dracaena, it is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.

The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
