Chlorophytum comosum, or Spider Plant, is an easy-care houseplant with long, arching foliage. Vigorous and versatile, it thrives in bright indirect light with moderate watering.
Chlorophytum comosum – Spider Plant
Easy to grow and naturally lush, Chlorophytum comosum forms a dense clump of long, arching leaves that create a graceful, cascading habit. Over time, it can produce long stems bearing small white flowers and young plantlets.
Light
It thrives in bright, indirect light but can also adapt to moderate light conditions. Good light encourages dense growth and helps variegated forms maintain strong contrast in their foliage.
Watering
Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain away. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
Care
The Spider Plant is hardy and relatively low-maintenance. Well-draining soil and stable indoor temperatures suit it well. Leaf tips may occasionally turn brown and can simply be trimmed as needed.
Good to know
Chlorophytum comosum is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Its cascading growth and ability to produce plantlets also make it particularly well suited to shelves and elevated displays.
