Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ – Variegated Rubber Plant
Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ is a variegated selection of the popular Rubber Plant. Its large, thick and glossy leaves display irregular patterns of green, cream and white. New growth may also emerge with delicate pink tones before developing its mature colouring.
Light
Provide bright indirect light to encourage healthy growth and maintain the foliage’s variegation. It can tolerate some gentle direct sunlight when gradually acclimated. Insufficient light may result in weaker growth and less impressive colouring.
Watering
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess moisture to drain away. Avoid keeping the soil consistently wet.
Care
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Occasionally wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. Rotate the plant regularly to encourage straight, balanced growth.
Good to know
Variegation naturally differs from one leaf to another, making each plant slightly unique. Like other Ficus elastica varieties, ‘Tineke’ contains a latex sap that can be irritating. The plant is also toxic to pets if ingested.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
