Aloe vera – Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a well-known succulent with long, fleshy leaves arranged in a rosette. Thick and water-storing, its leaves range from green to grey-green and feature lightly toothed margins. Hardy and low-maintenance, Aloe vera is particularly well suited to very bright indoor spaces.

Light
It thrives in very bright light and can receive direct sunlight when gradually acclimated. Generous light encourages compact, vigorous growth. Insufficient light can result in elongated leaves and a less structured appearance.

Watering
Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain away. Reduce watering when growth slows. Aloe vera stores water in its leaves and tolerates dry conditions much better than consistently moist soil.

Care
Use a very well-draining growing medium formulated for cacti and succulents. Avoid allowing water to collect in the pot or remain in the centre of the rosette. Over time, the plant may produce offsets around its base, which can be left in place for a fuller appearance or separated when repotting.

Good to know
Aloe vera is widely known for the gel found inside its leaves and its traditional use in cosmetic and personal care products. A plant grown as a houseplant, however, should not be considered a product intended for consumption or medicinal use. Aloe vera is not considered safe for pets if ingested.

The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
