Anthurium andraeanum – Flamingo Flower

With its glossy green foliage and distinctive colourful blooms, Anthurium andraeanum easily brings colour and presence to an interior. What is commonly called its flower is actually a colourful spathe surrounding a central spike called a spadix. Depending on availability, colours may range from red and pink to white and various shades in between.

Light
Anthurium thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which can damage the foliage. Good light also encourages flowering.

Watering
Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry, without allowing the plant to remain in constantly soggy soil. Reduce watering slightly when the plant is no longer flowering, particularly if its growth slows down.

Care
Native to a tropical environment, Anthurium appreciates warmth and good humidity. An airy, well-draining potting mix helps prevent excess moisture around the roots. Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves as needed.

Good to know
Anthurium is harmful if ingested and may cause irritation. Keep it out of reach of pets and young children.
