Available starting mid-November. Gaultheria procumbens is a compact evergreen plant with glossy foliage and decorative red berries, perfect for Christmas arrangements and seasonal displays.
Gaultheria procumbens – Wintergreen
Gaultheria procumbens, commonly known as Wintergreen, is a compact perennial native to North America. Its glossy, dark green evergreen foliage contrasts beautifully with its bright red berries, which appear in fall and may remain throughout winter.
With its natural, festive appearance, Wintergreen is a lovely addition to Christmas decorations, seasonal planters and botanical arrangements. It thrives best outdoors, where it can enjoy cooler temperatures.
Light
Prefers partial shade or bright, indirect light. Outdoors, avoid prolonged exposure to intense sunlight.
Watering
Keep the soil slightly moist without waterlogging it. Avoid allowing the root ball to dry out completely.
Care
Use acidic, well-draining potting mix. This cold-hardy plant prefers cool conditions and is not suited to long-term growing in a heated home. When grown in containers, protect the roots from severe freezing and winter dehydration.
Good to know
Wintergreen is a perennial groundcover that can be transplanted into a suitable garden location. Its berries are decorative and should not be eaten without proper identification and preparation. Keep out of reach of pets.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
