A trailing or climbing philodendron with heart-shaped foliage, green or variegated depending on the variety. Easy to grow in bright indirect light with moderate watering.
Philodendron cordatum – Heartleaf Philodendron
Philodendron cordatum is a tropical climbing plant loved for its soft, heart-shaped leaves and vigorous growth. Versatile and easy to grow, it can trail gracefully from a shelf or hanging planter or be trained to climb a support.
The green variety offers classic lush foliage, while ‘Brasil’ features distinctive lime-green to yellow variegation through the centre of its leaves.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. It tolerates lower light conditions, although growth may slow and the variegation of ‘Brasil’ may become less pronounced.
Watering
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
Care
Grow in a light, well-draining potting mix. Long stems can be trimmed to encourage fuller growth or trained onto a support for a climbing habit.
Good to know
Philodendron cordatum is easily propagated from stem cuttings containing a node. Like other philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets that may chew on it.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
