Peperomia obtusifolia – Baby Rubber Plant
Peperomia obtusifolia is a compact tropical plant prized for its thick, smooth and glossy leaves. Its fleshy stems gradually branch to create a dense, rounded plant.
Hardy and relatively easy to care for, it adapts well to indoor growing conditions and is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an attractive, low-maintenance houseplant.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. It can tolerate more moderate light, although brighter conditions generally encourage denser growth. Avoid intense direct sunlight.
Watering
Allow the potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. Its fleshy leaves and stems store some moisture, making the plant sensitive to overly frequent watering.
Care
Use a light, well-draining potting mix. Trim or pinch stems as needed to maintain a compact shape and encourage branching. Most importantly, avoid keeping the roots in consistently wet soil.
Good to know
Peperomia obtusifolia can produce slender, upright flower spikes that look quite different from the more conventional flowers of many houseplants. It is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
