Pachira aquatica – Money Tree
Pachira aquatica, commonly known as the Money Tree, is a tropical plant prized for its lush foliage composed of large, glossy, palm-shaped leaves. It is often grown with several young trunks braided together, creating its distinctive silhouette.
Over time, Pachira can develop into an impressive indoor plant while maintaining an elegant, airy appearance. Its relatively easy-going nature makes it a popular choice for both homes and workspaces.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. Pachira can tolerate more moderate light, but growth is generally stronger with good light. Some gentle direct sunlight can be beneficial, but avoid prolonged exposure to intense direct sun.
Watering
Allow the top few centimetres of the potting mix to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess moisture drain away. Avoid keeping the soil consistently wet, particularly during periods of slower growth.
Care
Use a rich, light and well-draining potting mix. Pachira appreciates good ambient humidity and relatively stable temperatures. It can be pruned to control its height and encourage branching. Rotate the pot occasionally to promote balanced growth toward the light.
Good to know
Pachira aquatica is commonly known as the Money Tree and is associated with luck and prosperity in various traditions and decorative practices. The braided trunks frequently seen in cultivation are shaped while the young stems are still flexible. It is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
