Guzmania – Bromeliad, Assorted Varieties

Guzmania is a tropical bromeliad prized for its rosette of long green leaves and brightly coloured bracts rising from the centre of the plant. Depending on the variety and availability, these may display different shades of red, pink, orange or yellow.

The decorative bracts generally retain their colour for an extended period, making Guzmania an excellent choice for easily adding a vibrant accent to an indoor space.

Light
Provide bright indirect light. Good light encourages vibrant colouring and helps maintain healthy growth. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which can damage the foliage.

Watering
Water the potting mix moderately, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings. Guzmania also forms a central rosette capable of holding water. A small amount of clean water can be kept in this central cup and refreshed regularly to prevent it from becoming stagnant.

Care
Guzmania appreciates good ambient humidity and relatively stable temperatures. Use a light, well-draining potting mix and avoid keeping the roots in consistently waterlogged soil.

Good to know
Like other bromeliads, Guzmania flowers only once from its main rosette. After flowering, the original rosette gradually declines, but the plant generally produces offsets around its base that can continue its growth. Colours vary according to the varieties available and current shipments. Guzmania is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.

The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
