Fatsia japonica – Japanese Aralia

Fatsia japonica is a lush foliage plant recognized for its large, glossy, deeply lobed dark green leaves. Its generous growth habit and bold foliage give it a strong architectural presence and bring an abundant, tropical feel to indoor spaces.

Light
Provide medium to bright indirect light. Fatsia japonica tolerates moderate light, although good light generally encourages stronger growth. Avoid intense direct sunlight through a window.

Watering
Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain away. Avoid letting the soil remain completely dry for extended periods or keeping the roots constantly waterlogged.

Care
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. Fatsia japonica appreciates some ambient humidity and generally prefers cooler conditions over excessively hot, dry environments. Occasionally wipe its large leaves to remove accumulated dust.

Good to know
Native to Japan and South Korea, Fatsia japonica can develop into a large shrub under favourable conditions. When grown indoors, its size can be managed through pruning. Despite its common name, Japanese Aralia, it belongs to the genus Fatsia.

The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
