Clusia guttifera features dense foliage made up of small, thick, glossy green leaves. Robust and sculptural, it thrives in bright indirect light and prefers the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Clusia guttifera – Small-Leaf Clusia
Clusia guttifera is a tropical plant with a naturally dense, branching growth habit. Its stems carry small, thick, leathery and glossy deep green leaves. Its compact growth and sturdy foliage gradually give it the appearance of a small shrub.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. Clusia guttifera can also benefit from a few hours of gentle direct sun once acclimated. Good light encourages denser growth.
Watering
Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let any excess drain away. Its thick leaves allow it to handle a brief dry period better than consistently saturated soil.
Care
Use an airy, well-draining potting mix. Clusia guttifera appreciates warmth and relatively stable temperatures. It can be pruned to control its shape and encourage denser, more branched growth.
Good to know
Clusia guttifera can be distinguished from Clusia rosea by its generally smaller leaves and naturally dense growth habit. In tropical climates, it can develop into a substantial shrub, while remaining much more compact when grown indoors. Its sap may cause irritation, and the plant is best kept out of reach of pets that may chew on it.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
