Christmas Cactus – Schlumbergera
The Christmas Cactus is a tropical plant native to the forests of Brazil, admired for its trailing, segmented stems and abundant blooms. Its delicate flowers come in a variety of colours, typically appearing in fall or winter and bringing a welcome splash of colour to your home during the colder months.
Unlike desert cacti, Schlumbergera prefers indirect light and slightly humid conditions. With proper care, this perennial plant can bloom year after year.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid intense direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon.
Watering
Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Maintain moderate moisture during active growth and flowering, without allowing water to collect in the pot.
Care
Use well-draining potting mix and avoid sudden temperature changes. Cooler nights and shorter days encourage flower bud formation. Avoid moving the plant frequently once buds have developed.
Good to know
Christmas Cactus is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Flowering times may vary depending on the species and growing conditions.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
