Calathea lancifolia – Rattlesnake Plant
Calathea lancifolia is a tropical plant prized for its highly decorative foliage. Its long, narrow, wavy leaves feature dark green markings over a lighter green background, while their undersides reveal rich purple tones.
Light
Provide bright indirect light. It tolerates medium light, but avoid intense direct sunlight, which may fade or scorch the foliage.
Watering
Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing the surface to begin drying between waterings. Avoid both completely dry soil and excess moisture. Using low-mineral water can help prevent browning along the leaf edges.
Care
Calathea lancifolia appreciates good humidity, stable temperatures and rich, airy, well-draining soil. Keep it away from cold drafts and sources of very dry heat.
Good to know
Also known as the Rattlesnake Plant, Calathea lancifolia is now botanically classified as Goeppertia insignis. Like many members of the Marantaceae family, its leaves may rise or shift position between day and night. It is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
The decorative planter shown in the photos is not included. The plant is sold in its nursery pot.
